We have recently put to words our mission and vision. Our hope is that it captures what we are and what we want to become.
As the Body of Christ the mission of Middleburgh Reformed Church is to demonstrate the transformative message of Jesus Christ.
Our vision is that we will grow as disciples through payer, worship, education and service.
We are a worshiping community with a long history in this place. As we respond to the Holy Spirit in our lives we value being hospitable and honoring our past in meaningful ways.
The Consistory, which acts as the board of church, is made up of Elders and Deacons. Our pastor is Rev. Jeffrey Kelley.
We are a part of the Reformed Church in America (RCA). With roots in the Netherlands, the worship and practice came with the people moving into the Schoharie Valley around 1720. The earliest records indicate there were pastors serving as missionaries traveling to the various settlements. The first building of the church was burned in the Johnson-Brandt raid of the Valley in 1780. After the war the congregation built a new building in 1786 that we still use today.
Our worship follow the reformed form, yet we are flexible (adapt to the needs and God’s leading). We pray together, listen to Scripture and sing hymns and songs. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of the month.
As for organization, the Consistory is the board that oversees and equips the congregation. The Consistory is made up of the Minister, Elders and Deacons.
As part of the RCA we are an orthodox, confessional church. We believe the doctrine expressed in the historical standards of the Church: Apostles’ Creed, Nicene Creed and Athanasian Creed. Particular to our history we confess the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Canons of Dort as being a summary of the faith.
